Ideas for Thanksgiving & Hanukkah in Oakland

I had the pleasure of catching up with the fabulous Christina Mitchell, the brains, beauty and foodie genius behind East Bay Dish. Below are her suggestions for Thanksgiving and Hanukkah in Oakland. For the full post, click HERE.

Last week, I gave you seven ideas for Thanksgivukkah dinner at home. But what if you don’t feel like cooking? There are still plenty of restaurants taking reservations on Open Table, but you should start making plans now. Here are some options for different budgets:

I was invited to Hanukkah Dinner last year at Grand Lake Kitchen and it was both delicious and satisfying. A few of the same dishes will be served along with some surprises on the a la carte menu: Matzoh Ball Soup, Latkes with Creme Fraiche and Jean’s Applesauce, Arctic Char Crudo (with Arugula, Fried Sweet Potato, Capers, Truffle), Roasted Bone Marrow (Castelvetrano Olives, Preserved Lemon, Parsley, Crostini), Artichokes (Gribiche, Crispy Fish Skin) and Brisket (with Mashed Potatoes, Root Vegetables, Horseradish).

Souley Vegan is hosting a Champagne Brunch Holiday Buffet on Thanksgiving. I am definitely an omnivore, but when Tina Tamale introduced me to her favorites last summer, the food was flavorful, comforting and satisfying. The buffet sounds like a great opportunity to taste lots of different dishes: Southern Fried Tofu, Mom’s Dressing, Herb Mashed potatoes, Blueberry Waffles, Baked Mac n Cheesezzz, Bomb Black Eyed Pea Salad, Pumpkin cheesecake topped with warm caramel sauce, Chocolate Pudding Topped with Cinnamon Glazed Apples and Mimosas

Lungomare’s chef Craig DiFonzo is offering an Italian-inspired Thanksgiving menu, which features House-Smoked Turkey Breast with Confit of Leg and Dry Aged Rib Eye. Sides like Chanterelle, Hazelnut and Green Apple Stuffing, Sweet Potatoes with Brown Butter, Almonds and Marsala, Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Tessa and Fresh Cranberry Sauce will be served family style. Chocolate Budino and Quince and Apple Crostada are offered for dessert.

You can check out Pican‘s 4 course “Thanksgiving with a Drawl.” They’ll have traditional dishes with a Southern twist including Cornmeal Fried Oysters, Bayou Classic Turkey Roulade and Banana Puddin’.
